The CASES event looked at three speciality areas - The titles of the presentations are below:
ENT - 'Sheffields Got TalENT'
CARDIOLOGY - 'HEARTS AND MINDS'
GASTRO - '50 SHADES OF YELLOW'
Aims and Objectives of this event:
Gastro:
‘50 Shades of Yellow’ - Guest Speakers Marion Sloan, Barbara Hoeroldt, Qumer Younis
Aims:
- To discuss common referral trends and themes in gastroenterology
- To enhance primary care management of patients with common gastroenterological conditions
- To improve awareness of early detection of Hepatitis C in primary care
Objectives:
- To describe the common gastroenterology conditions seen in primary care
- To describe appropriate investigation of Hepatitis C in primary care
- To discuss referral patterns to Gastroenterology
- To discuss top tips in managing these conditions in primary care
ENT:
‘Sheffields Got TalENT’ - Guest Speakers Dr Nadeem Petkar, Jaydip Ray
Aims:
- To inform GPs on common ENT conditions presenting in primary care
- To enhance the understanding on Primary care management of patients with ENT conditions
- To enhance knowledge in assessment and management of Benign Paroxysmal positional vertigo in primary care
Objectives:
- To describe the different ear, nose and throat disorders that present in primary care
- To improve assessment of these patients in primary care prior to referral, including top tips in management
- To demonstrate Dix Hallpike and Epley manoeuvres and thereby improve confidence at these manoeuvres

Cardiology:
‘Hearts and Minds’ - Guest Speakers GP Charles Heatley, GP Andy McCoye, Professor Rob Storey, Dr Kelland
Aims:
- To inform GPs on patients presenting Cardiology conditions in Primary Care ie Palpitations and assessment
- To inform GPs on NICE Chest pain (inc Anginal pain) and how ECGs can help
Objectives:
- To improve assessment of these patients in primary care prior to referral
- To discuss top tips in managing these conditions in primary care
